One of my favourite stories, Alice in Wonderland is a journey into the unknown with marvellous characters and craziness at the turn of every page. The original illustrations are a joy in themselves but many other artists have produced a wonderfully diverse range of images showing the weird characters Alice meets. This board is a collection of my favourite examples but many more are available online.
Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland (commonly shortened to Alice in Wonderland) is an 1865 novel written by English author Charles Lutwidge Dodgson under the pseudonym Lewis Carroll. It tells of a girl named Alice who falls down a rabbit hole into a fantasy world populated by peculiar, anthropomorphic creatures. The tale plays with logic, giving the story lasting popularity with adults as well as with children. It is considered to be one of the best examples of the literary nonsense genre and its narrative course and structure, characters and imagery have been enormously influential in both popular culture and literature, especially in the fantasy genre. Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland has had 20 different editions published since 1865, it’s been adapted for film and TV more than 20 times since 1903, it’s had 4 comic book adaptations and numerous live performances the first of which was a musical in 1886 performed at the Prince of Wales Theatre in London. This story really has stood the test of time .
